What to look for in kids’ dance classes

We are offering free dance classes this October

When choosing a kids’ dance class, there are a few things to keep in mind. We have put together a guide to get you thinking about the right dance classes for your child…

Four things to consider

Experienced teachers
When looking for a dance class for your kid, it is crucial to ask about the teachers. You will want to know who will be handling your child’s dancing education and in which ways they can impact your child. Ask about the instructor’s qualifications and teaching experience. It’s also good to ask if they have experience dealing with children in critical situations such as possessing a CPR certification that could save a child’s life.

At Dance to EvOLvE we focus on hiring teachers who are not only amazing dancers but are also great with children. They also have to take our own Dance to EvOLvE courses every once in a while so that we can make sure our curriculum is unified and enforced. 

What is their teaching philosophy?
Speaking of teachers’ ideas about dance, it’s a good idea to get to know the company philosophy. What are their core beliefs? Do they favor large or small dance class sizes?

At Dance to EvOLvE, our philosophy is ‘Your choice. Our knowledge. Their fun!’ Look for every studio’s mission statement or philosophy and make sure it’s easy to find.

Research the reputation of the studio and the classes
It never hurts to check out what other people have said about the dance studio you are looking into. One question to ask is how long has the dance studio been around and how well established are they? 

How are they about parental involvement?
Try and find dance classes that offer parent involvement once in a while so that you can come into class and actively see what your child is doing. At Dance to EvOLvE, there is a parent observation day where parents can come into class and watch their children learn new things during dance class. Parents love to come in and the audience is great for the dancers.

Auto-Renewal & Registration Details Semester Option

10% DISCOUNT Semester Auto-Renewal Registration: (This option is only valid at the beginning of a semester as it is not prorated.) Dancers’ registration continues semester to semester until family requests to switch to monthly enrollment or to cancel. Cancellation notifications must be submitted to the EvOLvE office via email prior to the next semester as the credit card on file will be automatically charged prior to the next semester starting. Kid’s dance class cancellation requests cannot be submitted to teachers. NO REFUNDS after the payment has been processed.

Monthly Auto-Renewal Registration: Dancers’ registration continues each month until family requests to switch to semester enrollment or to cancel. Minimum dance class enrollment is one month. Cancellation notifications must be submitted to the EvOLvE office via email prior to the 25th of the next month as the credit card on file will be automatically charged around the 28th of each month. Dance class cancellation requests cannot be submitted to teachers. NO REFUNDS after the payment has been processed. Billed monthly on the 28th of each month. Monthly charge will vary depending if it is a 3, 4 or 5-week month.

Registration Details for Kid's Dance Class

  • Although payment is organized in semesters or sessions, classes are designed to be progressive and ongoing throughout the year. Simply re-register session to session.
  • If paying at the front desk, credit cards, check or exact cash are accepted.
  • Please note that the City recreation center does not prorate if registering for the dance class late. Take advantage of our flexible make-up policy if you missed a class at the beginning of a session.
  • A dancer's spot in the dance class is only secured with payment as enrollment is first come, first served through the San Diego recreation center. No dancer can participate in a class without payment. You must re-register your dancer from session to session (or semester to semester) to secure their spot in the progressive dance class.
