Three things to look for when choosing a dance studio in Chicago

Choosing a Chicago dance studio  for your little dancer can be overwhelming but help is at hand. Here are three key points you should look for when deciding where to start your child’s journey in dance.

Age appropriate
This is one of the most important things to consider when searching for a dance studio in Chicago. Dance classes should always be age appropriate in level of skill. After all you wouldn’t want your little dancer dancing to Gangnam Style in their tap class! All dance studios offer tiny tot classes but many really focus on the advanced dance classes.  So always be on the lookout for dance studios who truly dedicate their studios to having age appropriate classes.

Professional
Regardless of where the dance classes take place,  professionalism is the outer face of the business. A dance class could be on a beautiful stage in downtown Chicago, but if the floor hasn’t been mopped in a few months it’s probably not the best dance studio for your dancer.  Advanced classes require special floors while younger classes need a great teacher who uses props to engage dancers.  Overall, you can tell a lot about the dance studio on how they present themselves and how they interact with the dancers during the class.

Nurturing
 One last thing to keep in mind when searching for a dance studio in Chicago, is a class full of dance technique and laughter.  Your dancer might be too young to be in a strict ballet class. On the other side a class full of laughter, fun and games can be interesting to your dancer, but may not have all of the age appropriate discipline you as a parent were looking for.  That’s why you want to find a dance studio that provides a dance class that has the combination of both dance technique and laughter.  Children learn from laughter and should be used as a tool for the dancer’s to progress.  Not every dance studio may have this type of dance class, but when you find one that does… you know that dance studio is a keeper!

Selecting the best age-appropriate, presentable, and engaging dance studio in Chicago is no easy task. However, if you look in the right places and keep all these tips in mind, it’s definitely possible.

10% DISCOUNT Semester Auto-Renewal Registration: (This option is only valid at the beginning of a semester as it is not prorated.) Dancers’ registration continues semester to semester until family requests to switch to monthly enrollment or to cancel. Cancellation notifications must be submitted to the EvOLvE office via email prior to the next semester as the credit card on file will be automatically charged prior to the next semester starting. Kid’s dance class cancellation requests cannot be submitted to teachers. NO REFUNDS after the payment has been processed.

Monthly Auto-Renewal Registration: Dancers’ registration continues each month until family requests to switch to semester enrollment or to cancel. Minimum dance class enrollment is one month. Cancellation notifications must be submitted to the EvOLvE office via email prior to the 25th of the next month as the credit card on file will be automatically charged around the 28th of each month. Dance class cancellation requests cannot be submitted to teachers. NO REFUNDS after the payment has been processed. Billed monthly on the 28th of each month. Monthly charge will vary depending if it is a 3, 4 or 5-week month.

Registration Details for Kid's Dance Class

  • Although payment is organized in semesters or sessions, classes are designed to be progressive and ongoing throughout the year. Simply re-register session to session.
  • If paying at the front desk, credit cards, check or exact cash are accepted.
  • Please note that the City recreation center does not prorate if registering for the dance class late. Take advantage of our flexible make-up policy if you missed a class at the beginning of a session.
  • A dancer's spot in the dance class is only secured with payment as enrollment is first come, first served through the San Diego recreation center. No dancer can participate in a class without payment. You must re-register your dancer from session to session (or semester to semester) to secure their spot in the progressive dance class.
