School’s out for summer! Keep your little ones occupied with these free (and almost-free) activities to do in and around San Diego.
Make a beeline for Balboa Park
Balboa Park is one of the most beautiful locations in San Diego. It has a zoo, stunning garden scenery and 14 museums! See for yourself and have fun in Balboa Park throughout the summer.
Seek out San Diego Zoo, Legoland and SeaWorld
There are a ton of things to do and places to see in all these locations this summer! From touring the habitats of pandas and gorillas in the zoo, to riding fun rides in Legoland and SeaWorld, San Diego offers fun for the whole family to enjoy.
Food glorious food
Kids love to eat, especially dessert. San Diego is known for its delicious foods and desserts whether its in La Jolla Cove, Old Town, Gaslamp, Mission Bay Park or Pacific Beach. You can find delicious tacos, Italian desserts, gelatos, Asian dining and more in all of the aforementioned locations.
Summer programs
There are multiple benefits to involving kids in summer programs. They can get improve their social skills, get fit and learn some new subjects. Summer camps offer a safe and structured environment for children.

Summer is always a fun and relaxing time for kids, but as a parent, it can be stressful. What activities do you choose? Which ones are offered at convenient times? “We first discovered Dance to EvOLvE through a free dance program they put on at the local library. Since then, my daughter has been taking a Tiny Movers class for almost a year now (tap/ballet combo) and she absolutely loves it! Miss Amy is an AWESOME teacher! She is very knowledgeable about dance and makes the classes fun, age-appropriate, and encouraging for the kids. We’ve done a few makeup classes also and all the other teachers we encountered were so friendly, professional, and great with the kids. The company makeup policy is very flexible, which was so helpful when we had to miss class due to illness or travel. My daughter recently participated in her first recital and it was SO GREAT! The teachers did an incredible job preparing for a quality show. The dances were eclectic, the costumes were top-notch, the price was reasonable, and the kids seemed to have a great time! From the moment I met Brittany and she presented her teaching concept to me, I was sold! I was fortunate to have Brittany and her staff teach dance to my middle school students at a large and successful after school program for several years. EvOLvE staff did not just instruct dance, but showed the students how to choreograph their own dances, a skill and talent that will last them their lifetimes. “My daughter is constantly playing ‘I’m Ms. Sara and you’re taking my dance class.’ She uses all the terms she has learned– passé, arabesque, heel-toe, etc. and leads her little sister, her dad and myself in a class, helping us out if we are doing a move incorrectly. Her teacher was absolutely wonderful! She is bright, sweet, encouraging yet strict. All the girls were having a great time! If you’re looking for a hard core competitive dance class for your child this is not for you but if you want something easy and fun then sign up! Prices are very reasonable too!”

She has now moved up to the Star Shiners class, and is learning a lot. She loves practicing her moves at home. If you are looking for a non-competitive and fun environment to learn dance, this is a great option.”
