Five simple rules for dance class etiquette…
Warm up
Stretching or shaking your body before the dance lesson is not only necessary but essential. Let your dancer know that it is important to let those silly giggles out before the class starts. A great dance instructor knows that a proper warm-up prevents injury while also setting the tone of the dance lesson.
Adhere to the studio’s dress code and policies
Every studio has its own dress code and policies. However wearing the correct dance attire to class provides structure and discipline to a dance environment. Being ready and showing care and concern for the studio policies, will teach your dancer some life lessons too.
Be courteous, to both dance instructors and fellow classmates
During a dance lesson… we are all one happy dancing family. In order to foster this friendly, family environment, dancers are expected to show respect and listen closely when an instructor is teaching.
It is also good to remember traditional dance etiquette: namely that dancers thank their teachers after their dance lesson. Doing so will earn brownie points and extra kudos!
Realize that “practice makes perfect”
Learning how to dance takes time and effort. Your dancer may be discouraged at first, but assure them that practice will go a long way. Perfection is not the goal here. The focus is on trying your best.
Last but not least, smile and have fun
A good dance studio knows how to include learning with fun activities. After all, a dance lesson is measured by how many smiles and laughs a dancer experiences during a dance lesson.
