School will soon be out for the summer and you may be wondering what to do with your little ones. Not to worry, there are tons of exciting things for your kids to do. Keep the kids entertained with these failsafe ideas for things to in San Diego over the school holidays…
GENERAL SUMMER IDEAS
Summer reading list
As the school year ends, kids will have more time to read their favorite books. Be it before bedtime, at the beach or during down time, there is always an opportunity to read a book.
This is a great way for kids to continue to read outside of school and develop their comprehension skills. Here are some suggested readings for kids aged six years and younger:
– If You Give A Mouse A Cookie by Laura Numeroff
– Cat the Cat Who Is That? By Mo Willems
– A Bear Called Paddington by Michael Bond
– Horton Hears A Who! By Dr. Seuss
Creative crafts for kids
During the summer toddlers can show their creativity while having fun by decorating a potted plant, painting a treasure box or customizing their room with beautiful paper lanterns.
Have your kids ever made Tie Dye shirts? Supplies are cheap and kids can wear them throughout summer. Keeping toddlers busy by letting them create their own art is a great way to spend their summer day.
Fun with food
Summer is all about great food during the Fourth of July, eating at local fairs and, when traveling, eating out a lot. Spend some time with your toddlers by cooking and baking easy recipes with them such as firework cookies and decorative cupcakes for upcoming holidays.
Enjoy the dessert at home or bring it to a picnic at the local park. Better yet, organize a playdate and share the fruits of your labor with friends.

Let’s go outside
Invite the neighborhood kids to play outside. Toddlers can have fun by drawing with chalk on the street, playing their favorite sport at the local park as well as various water balloon games.
Toddler summer camps
A great option for parents in need of a “sanity break” is summer day camp. Often offered in full or half days, summer camps can specialise in art, drama, dance, sports and so on.
Younger toddlers typically do best with half day camps. Meanwhile full day camps can provide more comprehensive summer activities for older toddlers, preschoolers and kindergarteners.
An added bonus? Full day camps give harried parents a bit more time to get things done on the home-front, or just take a well deserved rest!
SAN DIEGO SUMMER IDEAS
In a big city such as San Diego, here are always things to do, places to go, and things to see. Here are some fun summer activities for toddlers in San Diego!
San Diego is situated along the coast and beaches like La Jolla Shores and Mission Beach are all open to the public. Your family can enjoy fun in the sun by surfing, swimming, boogie boarding, building sandcastles, collecting seashells etc. There are great places to hike as well, the most popular trail being Potato Chip Rock in Poway.
Do your kids like animals? Bring them on a safari adventure to the San Diego Zoo or the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Expect to see pandas, lions, gorillas and more.
Explore tourist attractions like Balboa Park, USS Midway Museum, Old Town San Diego and Seaport Village. Last but not least, if you are looking for adventure and rides, stop by Belmont Park and SeaWorld San Diego for oodles of fun.
Finally Dance to EvOLvE invites kids to dance throughout summer by taking weekly classes as well as signing up for our summer camps for toddlers and preschoolers. Dance is a great way to keep kids both happy and active.
